Long Term Care

When we think of long-term care the first thought that comes to mind is often the elderly.  Younger individuals may also require long-term care if they have a debilitating illness or injury requiring the assistance to perform everyday functions, such as feeding themselves, getting dressed and bathing.  As with any type of insurance, you must purchase the long-term care insurance before you require the services covered under the policy.  Younger individuals may be less likely to benefit from this type of policy.  As a result, we generally recommend that individuals wait until they are between the ages of 50 to 65 before purchasing long-term care insurance.  Some individuals may feel they have sufficient savings and family support to cover the need for long-term care.  This type of insurance is most suitable for those individuals who do not have excess savings or the family support and would like to plan for the possible need for long-term care.
